OSWEGO — The Oswego Stampede junior hockey team opened its season Saturday with a 6-3 loss to the Northeast Generals in front of 350 fans at Crisafulli Rink.
Eddie Cannon, a forward from Glendale, Arizona, staked the Stampede to a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals.
The Generals answered with three goals in the second period for a 3-2 lead, and they added three more in the third to cement the victory.
Will Walker scored in the third period for Oswego.
Getting assists for the Stampede in the game were Dylan Gulick, Malik Lamotte Stokes, Jared Berry, and Josh Watterson.
Oswego goalie Steven Kozikoski made 43 saves.
Kyle Wagner (30 saves) was the winning goalie for the Generals. Jacob Kelly netted two goals and Bransen Macket, Brian Shea, Stephen Toal, and Austin Braley had a goal apiece.
The Northeast Generals went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Stampede had no power-play goals in seven opportunities.
The same teams were scheduled to meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at Crisafulli Rink in a North America Tier III Hockey League (NA3HL) contest.
The Stampede will host the Roc City Royals at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and then will welcome the Jersey Shore Wildcats for games at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
