Stampede Struggle Opening Weekend

Josh Wallace, an Oswego native who is a captain of the Oswego Stampede junior hockey team, scored his first goal of the season on Sunday in the team’s 5-1 loss to the Northeast Generals.

OSWEGO — The Oswego Stampede fell 5-1 to the Northeast Generals on Sunday at Crisafulli Rink in a North America Tier III Hockey League (NA3HL) contest.

In the game, Oswego’s Josh Wallace netted his first goal of the season for the Stampede. Wallace is a captain on the team.

The Generals opened the scoring at 6:53 of the first period when Dylan Figueroa got a power-play goal from John Lockhead.

Wallace scored at 8:02 to tie the game. Marcos Zarragoitia notched an assist on the play.

The Generals regained the lead at 18:13 when Fedor Lopaev scored assisted by Marc Faia and Lockhead.

Twenty-four seconds into the second period, Northeast’s Bransen Mackey scored off an Alex O’Dowd assist to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.

Lopaev recorded his second goal of the game at the 5:08 mark of the second period to make it 4-1. O’Dowd and Austin Braley were credited with assists.

In the third period, Lopaev completed his hat trick, assisted by Matt Hamel and Tommy Bellew.

Lucas Souza of the Generals earned the win in goal, making 33 saves. The Stampede finished 0-for-6 on power-play chances.

Ben White of the Stampede stopped 32 shots.

The Stampede will host the Roc City Royals at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and then will welcome the Jersey Shore Wildcats for games at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
