The Stampede coaching staff is excited to have defenseman Marcos Zarragoitia back with the team for this season. Zarragoitia 5’7 170 lb 18 year old from Red Lion, PA. Was solid last season for the Stampede and represented them in the Top Prospects tournament with the Select U-18 team. In 45 games with the team last season he posted 4 goals and 16 assists as a rookie blue-liner.
This season Zarragoitia looks to impress some of the NAHL coaches with his gritty style of play. “Marcos is a very good young player that we are working with to try and help make the jump to the NAHL. We will look to get him some time with at least one or two teams this season and have them get a good look at what he has to offer.” States Stampede Coach Mike Beavis.
The Stampede will be working with a few NAHL programs this season with tier 2 development in mind. The NA3HL serves a duel purpose with it’s players. “Our young guys, we look to help make the jump to the tier 2 where as with the older players we look to help them reach their collegiate goals.” Added Beavis. He also stated that with other tier 3 leagues, they tend to move guys upward only in their tier 3 organizational structure leaving younger players stuck in the programs pipeline only to hope to move to the college level of play vs the tier 2 ranks. He also added that this is not true for all tier 3 programs and leagues but seems to be the norm in the past few years. ” We have to find a way to help our younger players move up to the tier 2 level of play while still helping our older guys move onto college.” states Beavis. The NAHL and the NA3HL are working on a series of programs that will do just that as the two leagues met in Dallas TX. last month and talked about a variety of programs and events for this season that will help with a true development ladder for players under the NAHL umbrella.
The Stampede will continue to re-introduce it’s returning players and it’s incoming recruits over the next two weeks. This week the Stamp will prepare for their opening weekend on the road and travel to Biddeford, ME. As they will face the Maine Wild in a Northeast / Coastal Division crossover match-up. Be sure to catch all the action live from Biddeford on Hockeytv.com Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday puck drops at 11:30 AM.
