High powered Swedish forward Oscar Lande has joined the Stampede for the 2016-2017 season. Lande, the 20 year old 5’10 180lb forward from Stockholm Sweden will make a huge impact with the Stampede and the NA3HL. “Oscar was looking for a place to play and knew coming into it that we were a great fit for him and his dream of playing college hockey. Things tend to happen fast for players like Oscar combined with our NCAA relationships. In two days Oscar has already gotten interest from a few D-lll schools.” states coach Mike Beavis. Coach Beavis has been on the phone with a few schools already and has a couple coaches taking a trip up to Morrisville this week to take a look at the newest member of the Stampede. “One of my former players (Aki Virtanen) has watched Oscar play and has said he should be a point and a half to two points a game guy for us.” added Beavis “We will see how he adjusts to the smaller ice which will limit his time and space but I think that will be pretty easy for Oscar as he sees the ice very well and has great skill.” states Beavis.
Lande played the past two seasons with Flemingsbergs IK J-20 Elite and was their Captain last season. With his experience, skill level and leadership ability he could be just the guy the Stampede were looking to bring onboard this season.
The Stampede finished up training camp this past week and will begin normal practice next week in preperation for their season opener in Maine on September 17th and 18th VS the Maine Wild. Next weekend the Stampede and the LA Fighting Spirit will hold a combined practice with controlled scrimmage at Morrisville State College. “It will be great to see Rod Simmons and his team next week as we have not had the chance to play them in a couple of seasons and we were always top rivals in the past. The guy’s will skate together and have dinner after the session on Saturday. stated Beavis
